As one of the two strategic partners to Techpoint at last weekend’s Techpoint Inspired Conference, West Africa’s largest technology conference, Stakeholders in Blockchain Technology Association of Nigeria (SiBAN) did not only facilitate the Blockchain Workshop but also played a major role in ensuring the success of the conference.
SiBAN was ably represented at the 2-day conference by its chief promoter and President Paul Ezeafulukwe, Vice Chairman (Blockchain Education & Adoption) Chris Ani, Vice Chairman (Policy & Regulations) Senator Ihenyen, distinguished Caretaker Committee member Abikure Tega, and esteemed member Lucky Uwakwe. They all attended the main conference, the breakout Blockchain section, and the special dinner that followed the next day at Four Points by Sheraton, Victoria Island, Lagos.
At Techpoint Inspired Conference which was well attended on 1 June 2019, three sections—Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, and Future of Work—followed at various halls after what many considered insightful keynote addresses and presentations inside Pistis main hall.
For the Blockchain session for which purpose SiBAN was strategic partner of Techpoint, there were very enlightening, engaging, and insightful presentations by all invited speakers, locally and internationally.
SiBAN speakers in the Blockchain expository session were Paul Ezeafulukwe and Senator Ihenyen. SiBAN President Paul Ezeafulukwe made quite an inspiring presentation on ‘Blockchain and Good Governance’. In his presentation, Mr Ezeafulukwe emphasized that considering Africa’s level of development compared to other parts of the world, blockchain is for Africa.
Senator Ihenyen also made a presentation, titled ‘Smart Contracts and the Law’. In this presentation, Senator Ihenyen introduced to the audience what smart contracts are and their legal status. SiBAN speakers were not alone though. They were joined by other speakers in the blockchain and cryptocurrency community, including Luno, Seso, and SatoWallet representatives.
At the end of all speakers’ presentations, there was a brief panel session comprising speakers for the blockchain session. The panel session turned out to be very enlightening and engaging as the audience had the opportunity of asking questions and getting answers on various aspects of the blockchain, including blockchain and cryptocurrency regulatory matters.
During this panel session, SiBAN had the opportunity of introducing SiBAN’s self-regulatory works and goals, much to the delight and interest of the audience. After the blockchain session, it was time for the cryptocurrency session. Chris Ani of Digital Abundance, Abikure Tega of Kurefund Eco-System, and Lucky Uwakwe of Sabi Exchange were the three SiBAN members that flew the SiBAN flag at this session.
Chris Ani presented the topic, ‘Crypto 101’ which introduced the audience to cryptocurrency as electronic or virtual money which everyone must pay attention to and leverage for economic freedom. Abikure Tega then took the barton, finely speaking on ‘Crowdfunding: Leveraging Crypto for Fundraising’.
Here, the audience got to know what crowdfunding was all about and the various types of fundraising in the crypto world. Lastly, after two other speakers from other platforms, SiBAN’s Lucky Uwakwe who is Founder of Sabi Exchange concluded the cryptocurrency section with an insightful look at Cryptocurrency Regulation in Africa. Interestingly, from a cryptocurrency regulation angle, Lucky Uwakwe showed the audience how Africa was again repeating the same mistake with cryptocurrency regulation as it did with internet connectivity 30 years ago.
At the end of the workshop, there were photo sessions, networking, and interviews by Cryptotvplus, Africa’s pioneer cryptocurrency and blockchain media house and one of the media partners at Techpoint Inspired led by Tony Emeka, the Founder, who played a significant role in ensuring that Techpoint’s partnership with SiBAN went through. Also present at the conference was Ambassador Gilead Okolonkwo, Managing Director of Beepmagnet, distinguished member SiBAN Caretaker Committee, and a solid supporter of SiBAN. Also, a number of persons who indicated their interests in joining SiBAN were also accommodated at the conference.
Techpoint Inspired 2019 came to a close with a special dinner for speakers and VIPs at Four Points by Sheraton, Sunday 2 June 2019, where there was so much networking, entertainment, and fun. Techpoint Founder Adewale Yusuf and his colleague Yinka Awosanya expressed their appreciation to SiBAN for its contributions to the success of Techpoint Inspired 2019.
There were great photo moments, red wines and Baileys to go round, and even crypto bounties for guests and VIPs present when Abikure Tega’s Kurecoin and Franklin Peters’s Bitfxt decided to reward everyone who installed their wallets with some free cryptos. The audience were delighted and this added a fine spark to the dinner night.
SiBAN is happy to have been a partner at Techpoint Inspired 2019 and we wish to do it again, and even more. Mr Paul Ezeafulukwue, SiBAN President, and SiBAN representatives are inspired to rededicate themselves to more impact in the blockchain and cryptocurrency space.
